MAKING FAMILY FITNESS FUN

THE BUGGY RUN STORY

The event aims to show that working out as a family is a POSITIVE and FUN experience!

The Buggy Run is the only event of its kind in the Middle East and follows in the footsteps of cities such as New York and London, where buggy-based fitness is a major exercise and lifestyle trend.

It is an un-timed 2.5km and 5km fun run, for beginners right through to seasoned runners.  Participants are welcome to walk, skip, jog or run around the track and can choose to run the distances solo, as a team or as a relay. Older children can either run too or can bring their bike or scooter.

It’s a social, inclusive family friendly event, for mums, dads, friends and extended family which educates children on the importance of health and fitness from a young age.

See you at the start line!

I don't have a running buggy - can I still take part?

Yes, you can! As long as you have a good, sturdy buggy and your baby or child is safely strapped in, you're good to go. For their safety, we don't encourage babies under the age of 6 months.

I'm not used to running but want to take part - any suggestions?

Is there a training programme you can offer?

Yes! We've partnered up with Urban Energy, one of Dubai's leading fitness providers, who will be offering The Buggy Run registrants 3 free sessions. Starting January 5th, sessions will run every Tuesday at 9 am in the Marina and there's an additional class every Friday at 7am in Umm Suqeim Park to get you moving and practicing without a buggy! Whether you've been running for years, or just starting out, it's a good way to challenge yourself and get motivated.

I do run, but never with a buggy before - anything I need to know?

Not really! It's a slightly different workout than running solo, but a great workout nevertheless.

The only prep you'll need is for the baby…make sure you have some snacks and juice handy! Although the distances aren't too far, you don't want to have to abandon your run because you've got a very hungry baby on your hands! To be extra organised, maybe also a toy or a book, in case they need extra entertainment along the way!

I really want to run but I'll have a baby in a buggy and an older child.

Children up to the age of 12 can either run or ride their bike or scooter, as long as they are accompanied by a registered adult.

My partner and I want to run the 5k but want to do it as a relay;

is that possible?

Most definitely! You and your partner have the flexibility of splitting the 5km and running as a relay (2.5km each), or take on the entire distance together.

Will there be a prize?

Although the event isn't timed, we know some of you may welcome a challenge! There will be trophies for 1st place along various categories, to make you run that little bit faster!

We are a group of 10 (or more) and want to participate with our babies - can you offer a discount?

We love to see big groups! Please get in touch via the 'Contact Us' page for more info.

What about parking?

Don't worry - there's ample parking available at the venue, all within walking distance of the Funground.

I can't come to Dubai - will you have an event in Abu Dhabi?

Yes, that's the plan! Watch this space for more info!

#HEALTHYHEARTTIPS

Here are a few Healthy Heart Training Tips from our partner Kings College Hospital's Dr. Ali Razzak, Family Medicine Consultant

GET ACTIVE

Getting – and staying – active can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. It can also be a great mood booster and stress buster.

Do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week. One way to achieve this target is by doing 30 minutes of activity on five days a week. Fit it in where you can, such as by cycling to work.

EAT MORE FIBRE

Eat plenty of fibre to help lower your risk of heart disease – aim for at least 30g a day. Eat fibre from a variety of sources, such as wholemeal bread, bran, oats and wholegrain cereals, potatoes with their skins on, and plenty of fruit and veg.
